NUBIAN and LaMancha DAIRY GOATS WITH PERFORMANCE-BASED DATA BEHIND THEM

2009 ADGA Linear Appraisal Milking Doe Herd Average - 87.2!

First and foremost, Glades Ridge Dairy Goats is a dairy herd.  The does are milked twice a day, work for a living and earn their keep.  To that end, DHI data and Linear Appraisal scores guide our selection, retention and culling decisions.  We milk 365 days a year, and expect that our does will maintain production over a 305 day lactation.

We are working toward breeding a herd of Nubian and LaMancha dairy goats that are structurally correct, milk well out of sound, well-attached udders, and have the stamina to meet the demands of sustained production. We take production and type seriously, and that's the reason that we are supporters and participants of monthly DHIR testing and the American Dairy Goat Association Linear Appraisal program.  Our overall goal is to maintain a dairy herd in the traditional sense of what that means -  dairy goats that milk, without compromising on udder quality and type.  We are limited to local one-day shows- running the dairy precludes overnight trips.

Bucks are selected carefully, and kids are culled strictly - we don't sell an animal that we would not keep ourselves. All kids are raised on a CAEV prevention protocol.  Herd health is a primary consideration. We vaccinate for enterotoxaemia and tetanus and treat for internal parasites only when needed. Hooves are trimmed regularly, and the herd - does, bucks and youngstock, have round-the-clock access to high-quality hay and pasture.  While on the milk stand the milking does are fed a minimal amount of grain - enough just to keep them busy while they are milked.  Water, trace minerals and bicarbonate of soda are available free choice.  We pay strict attention to the humane treatment of our dairy herd.  The goats are raised ethically, with attention to the details of good management, and with as little stress on them as is possible.

Generally, Glades Ridge does not sell buck kids for breeding - the only bucks offered for sale are out of does that appraise and milk well, and by sires that have some production and type data behind them.  Doe kids and yearlings are occasionally available, although most are retained as herd replacements. Senior does are not for sale.
